The Culver Hotel

This is a wonderful vintage venue, but unfortunately they no longer host Swing dancing events (boooo!) Original article is below:

The Culver Hotel opened in 1924, so the ambiance is fantastic for Swing dancing and Bal. After it was allowed to deteriorate in the 1950’s through the 90’s, it was renovated in 1997 to the state it is in today. You can read more about the history here, including legends that the hotel is haunted.

The floor is smooth marble tile and is pretty good for dancing. There is a small dance area that has been cleared out in front of the band.

On nights when Dave Stuckey is playing, the crowd consists of bewildered hotel guests and diners along with Bal and Swing dancers who are fans of Dave Stuckey.

On non-Stuckey nights, there are considerably fewer Swing dancers there. On those nights, you should bring your own partner.

Keep in mind that this is a hotel, bar, and restaurant, not a Swing venue, so please be sensitive to the patrons and wait staff. Buy dinner or at least a drink so they will continue to book Swing bands!!!!!  If you just show up, dance, and leave, it isn’t fair to the venue or the band.

The schedule is subject to change (my calendar is not directly linked to their websites, unlike other venues), so check the respective Facebook pages before going. – Brian
