  1. I have to tell you, I appreciate your calendar and use it often but I find your recent designation “Older Crowd” extremely AGEIST and highly offensive. Perhaps you could find a more PC way to say you think younger people would NOT be interested in dancing with people who are not in their age group. Although I think that is backwards in itself…because if a “younger crowd” were to start going to these events, they would become more happening venues, right? I have seen that happen with several venues over the years, as different age groups start going to them, the venue becomes far less marginalized and a few are now pretty mainstream that ALL AGES definitely enjoy! But by designating an event offered to you in good faith that you will post it, which you do in such an AGEIST way, it essentially PREVENTS that INTEGRATION from happening . So you are basically causing segregation of these communities, and I feel it is misguided to attempt to label venues in this manner. I appreciate that you want everyone to have a good time, but I really urge you to think about dropping this designation, and letting people see for themselves if they are disappointed or if they can integrate into new venues which clearly want more people of ALL AGES to visit them, otherwise they would clearly give you age requirements for entrance! All of us young-at-heart people are one day going to be an “older crowd” and do we want to be labeled as such and have segregated venues only for ourselves?? Or do we want to help new dancers on the scene and enjoy a strong Swing dancing community with lots of new venues coming onto the scene and older ones always evolving. I urge you to think about what you are doing and the awesome responsibility you have to our community. Thank you.

      1. Aw, thank you so much for your awareness and willingness to help us integrate into a strong and more united population of dancers of all levels who love Swing dancing and hopefully can help each other to thrive and love it even more. And a special thank you to you for your marvelous service to this community, keeping us all informed…you are our Navigation and we appreciate all you do so much! Thanks for your sensitivity and continued support of Swing dancers of all ages!!

  2. Seven days away! Audition for us and see what we are all about. All levels welcome.

  9. This Saturday, Jumpin’ Joz will be rolling in to the place it all began, the Pasadena Ballroom Dance Association’s “Swing Out Saturday Night,” birthplace of the swing dance revival: with an all-star lineup, the Joz band will be showcasing the new documentary film Swing Dance Party, currently on the festival circuit.

Come see the movie, including cameos by the band and members of the swing community, at two screenings, one at 7 PM and again at 9. Along the way, it’s the same great night of swing PBDA always delivers up, with a swing dance lesson from 7:30-8, and dancing from 8-11:30 on the huge dance floor. As always, snacks and a chance at a great door prize are part of the fun.

The powerhouse lineup, featured in the film, will include Joz leading the charge, accompanied by jazz and swing sax master Jerry Moore, virtuoso guitarist and songwriter Barry Pohlmann, the soulful multi-keyboardist Michael Carr, and the rock-solid groove of bassist Mike Uhler.

Come join us to dance the night away and celebrate the swingin’ homecoming of the Joz band!
