  6. I posted a comment on Friends of PBDA about Joe’s Great American Bar closing, which had “permanent” indicated on a Google search of Joe’s. Someone in the know (not sure if they want their name publicly mentioned) replied as follows: “This “Permanently Closed” thing has been up and down on Google starting several months ago. However, as of 3 weeks ago, Joe’s was supposed to re-open late this month OR early August. IF all went well with the city and re-opening. So IF something has changed it’s because of the new mask mandate, which will probably put several places on hold or out of business, or at least delay re-openings. Hopefully Joe’s will just be delayed a bit, like to Sept.”

    1. We played at Joe’s many times for swing dances and love the place and the management, really hope it can stay open. John Williamson The Atomic Roots Orchestra.

  7. Jennifer Keith Sextet Cabaret Show
Sat. Aug. 7 at Campus JAX Newport Beach

Fans have described Jennifer Keith as “a pinup doll with a voice reminiscent of Keely Smith, Doris Day and Julie London.”
With her full-skirted fifties dress, and flowers in her hair like Billie Holiday, she echos the vintage ‘girl’ singer of the big band and swing era.

Audiences and dancers will be thoroughly entertained and transported back to a timeless era of entertainment “Where lounge meets pin-up.”

Jennifer re-captures the Golden Age of Swing, and was renowned for her Las Vegas lounge act prior to the pandemic.

Now she is coming back to the stage with her amazing sextet, and Campus JAX is her first stop on the tour.
Their wide-ranging song list includes laid-back cocktail patois (“Just Squeeze Me”); love songs (“Dream of You”); mid-tempo anthems (“Our Day Will Come,” “You and the Night and the Music”) and includes hard rockabilly (“Two Hearts”).

Her fabulous band is led by Mando Dorame, the tenor saxophonist and co-founder of world renowned Royal Crown Revue; a band credited for reviving the swing movement. Among other credits, Royal Crown Revue has been featured numerous times in Dancing with the Stars and The Mask with Jim Carrey. Plus, Mando toured with Bette Midler as her saxophonist on 3 tours of the “Kiss My Brass” tour.

Enjoy dinner, dancing and drinks in a cabaret setting with free parking, all ages and a fabulous menu starting at just $10.

Entree required per person with 20% gratuity added.

  8. One of my favorite dance/social venues have been off-line with no updates in like forever. Anybody know anything about the status of Joe’s Great American Bar in Burbank? I am praying that it is not permanently closed.

      1. I hear you. I’ve reached out to a number of people who I know have contact with Trey and Nathan but no info yet. Man, what a loss that would be if it doesn’t re-open.

        All the best Brian!
