About the Venue: Tucked into the heart of Los Angeles, this vintage-inspired space offers 2,000 square feet of sprung hardwood floors made for dancing. High ceilings, golden lighting, and velvet drapery set the tone – warm and refined, with a sound system tuned for a rich live music experience.
Motivo LA is a large dance venue in Atwater Village that is hosting a new monthly Swing night – Club Velvet!
Located in a sort of residential area, the outside is very underwhelming but the inside has a great ambiance! It’s a large space with an amazing floor and lots of room to dance.
The night starts with two concurrent lessons offered – one for beginners and one for intermediate/advanced dancers. When we went, the advanced one was taught by no less than Steve Sayer and Karine Hermes, so we’re talking top-notch instructors here!
The bands have been excellent as well; whoever is booking them knows what dancers want!
The crowd was great when we for Jonathan Stout and His Campus Five Featuring Hilary Alexander. Needless to say, I hope this Swing dance event continues for a long time!
p.s., They tell everyone to bring their own water bottle. I think it’s great that they don’t have to throw away a bunch of plastic cups at the end of each night!
