The Barkley is a neighborhood restaurant in South Pasadena which recently started having some very good bands to Swing dance to.  Some people remarked that it feels kind of like a “slightly upscale Joe’s Bar”, which is a pretty good description.  The food is reasonably priced, mostly American. The wooden dance floor is not huge but holds about 10 couples doing Balboa. The Barkley regularly hosts dancer-favorite bands like Dave Stuckey and the Hot House Gang, and the Big Butter Jazz Band. The Pasadena Ballroom Dance Association (PBDA) is a large, friendly, non-intimidating, family-run weekly event that has been going on for years. There are plenty of partners of varying skill levels. The people here are novice to intermediate dancers with a few advanced if the band is good. There is a wide variation of ages, from high school to retired folks. Lindygroove 15th Anniversary

LindyGroove is in the middle of a “phased soft re-opening”. They are only accepting dancers who have a LindyGroove account and have pre-purchased series lessons or have funds in their LindyGroove account. You can’t just show up at the door. They also have stringent proof of vaccination and mask requirements. Below is my pre-pandemic description of LindyGroove.
