The Boomtown Brewery is a really cool and unique space in the Arts District near Downtown Los Angeles. It’s really two large rooms: one for the taproom and one for the events space. The events space is where the Swing bands play.
The floor is smooth concrete, totally fine to dance on. The event space is huge with really great airflow so it almost feels like you’re dancing outside.
We had a great time when we went to see Dave Stuckey and the Hukilau Hotshots on 5/22/2022:
The Swing bands are completely paid for by an organization called culturematters.org, which is really one man. I met him, a man named Phil, and asked him, “how does this event make money?” since there was no cover. I found out that he funds it himself just to “pay it forward” by helping musicians and by fostering community. He has no expectation of making money for himself. Wow!
Thus, there is no cover charge and no drink minimum! Phil pays for the sound man and the band. All he asks is that we dancers tip the band.
Please also buy a few beers from the brewery! Note they ONLY serve beer; no wine, and no non-alcoholic drinks other than Coke and Sprite.
There are also food trucks outside (the fish tacos at the Poppa Joe’s Kitchen truck were amazing when we went!)
There is ample street parking if you don’t mind walking a block or two.
