Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO) – CURRENT: REFLECTIONS IN SONG

In Cicada’s dazzling Art Deco setting, countertenor John Holiday’s luminous, expressive voice meets Lara Downes’s poetic piano, and an 18-piece LACO lineup in a program, with arrangements by GRAMMY®-nominated Chris Walden, that glides from Gershwin and Ellington to Strayhorn, Korngold, and Chaplin. These timeless works, shaped by LACO artists whose music has long intertwined with the silver screen, blend jazz elegance with cinematic romance. Surrounded by golden-era glamour, escape for an evening of sophistication, nostalgia, and heartfelt artistry—perfect for dressing in style and dancing the night away.

Throughout the performance, the dance floor will remain open for guests inspired to swing, foxtrot, and jitterbug, bringing the supper club atmosphere to life. Following the concert, all guests are invited to join LACO for an After Party in Cicada’s upstairs balcony.

About the Venue: Cicada Restaurant and Lounge

The Cicada Restaurant and Lounge in downtown LA is one of my favorite vintage swing dance venues. You really feel like you’re going back in time when you enter this amazing Art Deco space, which has been featured on many movies and TV shows. The bands on Swing nights are always authentic.

This is primarily a restaurant and bar, not a dedicated Swing dance venue, although there are some great Swing dance nights there. Check the Lindy Calendar to see what nights have Swing dancing. Usually, it’s best to bring your own partner, but sometimes there can be many folks to dance with.

There is a formal dress code – it would be a shame for people in shorts and t-shirts to ruin the 1930’s feel. Plus, can be fun to dress up once in a while, so bring your dance crew and give Cicada a try! Front floor is somewhat small, but you can also dance on the marble floor upstairs which is usually empty.
