Swingtronic is a monthly Swing dance event featuring popular vintage bands in an upscale nightclub atmosphere.
Originally emphasizing electro swing, Swingtronic now features regular Swing dancing (Lindy) and New Orleans jazz bands such as the Big Butter Jazz Band, Dave Stuckey, the Holy Crow Jazz Band, and Jonathan Stout and His Campus Five Featuring Hilary Alexander. DJ Professor Watson spins dance music between sets.
“Dapper and Dolled” dress code is requested at all Swingtronic events to preserve the upscale vintage feel of this event. If you don’t have vintage clothing, at least dress up.
There’s an outdoor patio where you can cool off and catch up with friends or make new ones.
If you’re looking for good Swing music and good dancing in a nightclub environment, definitely check out Swingtronic!
The current home of Swingtronic is the Airliner restaurant and bar, located in the Lincoln Park area northeast of downtown Los Angeles.
The Airliner is a restored historic 1923 two-level space featuring a curved Art Deco bar and outdoor patio on the first floor, with another bar, stage, and wooden dance floor on the second floor, perfect for Swing dancing. There’s also outdoor space on the second floor, great for cooling off after a few dances. Not all of these spaces are always open on Swingtronic nights, but they were when we went.
We really liked the drinks there, and the staff was friendly. You wouldn’t expect very good food at a bar, but their fried chicken sandwich with coleslaw, pickles, and fries is awesome. We get it every time we go now. The kitchen closes at 10 PM. The Airliner gets 4.5 stars on Yelp, comparable to high-end gourmet restaurants!
The neighborhood is not the greatest, but we usually go early and are able to find free street parking right across the street.
Proof of vaccination or negative COVID test is required for entry.
The Airliner is definitely a fun and unique venue to dance in! I recommend checking it out!
