The Barkley

The Barkley is a neighborhood restaurant in South Pasadena which recently started having some very good bands to Swing dance to.  Some people remarked that it feels kind of like a “slightly upscale Joe’s Bar”, which is a pretty good description.  The food is reasonably priced, mostly American.

The Barkley

The wooden dance floor area holds about 10 couples doing Balboa.

The Barkley regularly hosts dancer-favorite bands like Dave Stuckey and the Hot House Gang, and the Big Butter Jazz Band. With such good music, the turnout of Swing dancers is often surprisingly good, but bring your own partner to be safe. Dancers usually show up during the second set (around 10PM)

The bands start between 9 and 10PM and usually go till 1AM, so you could even hit up PBDA first, and then come here for late night dancing.

The dancing starts after most people have finished eating, so the staff is usually quite tolerant of the dancers.

There is no cover, but please buy food or drinks, as this is a restaurant, not a dedicated Swing dance venue. – Brian

  1. This could be the worst place in LA to go dancing. Oweners were a jerk. Please avoid this place at all cost.
