Quatro de Mayo with Pachcuco Jose and Kid Ramos bands

Quatro de Mayo Fiesta is a Sunday show starring Kid Ramos y Los Suaves together with Pachuco José y Los Diamantes. Campus JAX of Newport Beach is the site and the doors open at 4 for the 5 pm show. Reservations at StellarShows.net

Kid Ramos’ work with the Fabulous Thunderbirds, the James Harman Band, Los Fabulocos and the Mannish Boys made him famous for his blues guitar. His background is actually much wider, and his chops are as much Tex-Mex as jazz-rooted and informed by the blues.

Kid was an originator of what he calls Cali-Mex music, a fusion of blues, R&B, cancionero and Chicano sounds that reflect the influences that come from being part of California’s Mexican-American community. Cali-Mex encompasses rock, tejano, and country-western swing, with a garnish of talent and high style. His new band, Kid Ramos y Los Suavos, is ready to unleash their latest take on Cali-Mex on May 4.

Opening the show is Pachuco José y Los Diamantés. José is a living tribute to the Pachuco style of the 1940s, associated with zoot suit fashion, jump blues, jazz and swing. His musical soul is rooted in the rhythms of old school rock & roll, and José has ventured into the world of fashion, crafting his own line of classy Pachuco style. Jose’s history is one of resilience, faith, and a harmonious blend of Pachuco vibes – with rock & roll rhythms.

“Newport Beach’s only supper club”, Campus JAX features cabaret-style shows with dining, dancing, and seating at tables or the bar in an intimate listening room.

Christopher Burkardt’s Stellar Shows (some of you may remember their shows at Don the Beachcomber) puts on a good number of Swing-danceable bands there every month. There is a large stage and good dance floor.

It is a supper club so a purchase is required, but there is no drink minimum. Food is Cajun/Creole and gets an impressive four-and-a-half stars on Yelp. Dinner prices range from $10-$18. Of course, there’s also a full bar.

They put out multiple water tanks for dancers. Everybody has a seat – but you need not stay in your seats!
