A Swing Dancer’s Bucket List

Camp Hollywood 2013Here is a bucket list for LA/OC Swing dancers. No, I haven’t done all of these, but I figure it’s a good list to strive for. How many have you done? Check the boxes and see your percentage below! You can check off a few of these items this weekend at Camp Hollywood!

You’ve done 0% of the Swing Dancer’s bucket list!

Leave your score in the comments!

And just to be clear, for the ones that involve learning choreography, I mean knowing the choreography well enough to do it in front of someone right now, not just taking the class once, or only being able to do it when led, or when watching the person in front of you do it. Because, yes, we all “know” the Shim Sham, but how many of us can do it in the front row without watching anyone? Same thing for the Big Apple and California routine.

What items are on your Swing bucket list? I know I missed a bunch. Comment below and I’ll add them to the list! Oh, and if you have better YouTube links than what I’ve provided, let me know! – Brian

80% because Camp Hollywood is one of the few camps I’ve never been to. And this list was rather skewed towards Camp Hollywood and surroundings! I did go to Herrang for 8 years back in the early days before it got so crowded. A lot of the camps i used to go to not longer exist, but I KNOW there are more than 2 still around, y’all! The one is Ireland is on my bucket list!

I’m only an intermediate dancer in Los Angeles, yet I’ve been lucky enough to dance socially with international competitors Steve Sayer and Jeremy Otth. I’ve also danced with SwingDance.LA founder Brian Shim! I can die happy!

A good list, but if I did not do all, it is only because I don’t have the money for it. I am a swing dancing instructor, choreographer, and performer for over 30 years and I do belong to 2 swing teams, one in Switzerland (club Zou) and one in Los Angeles. So, I deserve some credits.

25%, still working on it. Our goal is to try to teach once in almost every country as well as attend at least one. What a way to travel the world.
