The Best Weekend of Live Swing Music in Los Angeles in Years!
I can’t remember a weekend with this many Swing dance options (some of which are FREE) since before COVID, so I had to write about it! You have to check out some of these bands starting tonight!
The weekend starts early with two FREE Thursday outdoor concerts:
- Ponpon Chen at the Culver Steps – I’ve seen Salsa dancing at the Culver Steps and always wished for a Swing dance event here! Oh, and Popon is great! FREE!
- The Moontones at the Original Farmers Market – I love dancing at this wonderful FREE venue! (Just pay for parking).
Plus, there’s always the reliable Lindygroove in Pasadena with DJ’d dancing! Theoretically, you could make it to a bit of each of these in one night… Just sayin’.
On Friday, whatever type music you like to Swing dance to is available:
- Western Swing with The Prairie Moons, featuring Eva Mikhailovna at the Burbank Moose Lodge!
- 50’s Doo-Wop with Lil’ Mo & the Dynaflos at Rusty’s Rhythm Club!
- Unabashedly flashy neo-Swing with Phat Cat Swinger at the Cicada Club!
- Dark cabaret Swing with Marquis and the Rhythm Howlers with a rare Clifton’s appearance!
If you’re in OC, check out Ashley Anne and the Carnations playing dancer-favorite classics from the 1930s to the 1960s! And of course there’s DJ’d music at Atomic Ballroom, also in OC.
On Saturday we have:
- The fantastic Chloe Perrier and the French Heart Swing Band at the Cicada Club!
- Another great dancer-favorite band – Nat & Her Tiger Five playing a circus-themed evening at PBDA!
On Sunday:
- Joe Finkle & The 7/10 Splits at Club 507 in Newhall
- A dancer favorite, The Dreamboats are playing 50s and 60s hits at a free outdoor concert in Glendora!
Hope to see you on the dance floor this weekend! If you haven’t been out dancing in a while, this is a great chance to get back into it! Which events are you going to? Leave a comment below! – Brian
